1,000,000
The million-book goal gave the campaign its scale and direction: to make free books available to students and readers who could not afford them. It remains the initiative’s ambition, while the 9,000-plus figure above records the distribution achieved.
Join the conversation →In this initiative, a book was more than an item handed over at a distribution point. It opened access to knowledge for people with fewer choices and affirmed that the ability to pay should not determine who gets to read.
The project brought together readers looking for books, students trying to continue their studies in difficult circumstances, and donors who wanted their support to reach people directly. Its approach connected donors with students and offered books free of charge or at cost, depending on the batch and available support.
The need was larger than any single initiative, and economic hardship continued to affect students. Yet successive distributions showed how practical steps can keep books within reach and give students another chance to continue.
More than nine thousand books have reached readers free of charge. Behind the number are choices, questions and new encounters with ideas; students who kept going, and readers who found knowledge in a book. This is the impact we value and the reason we continue.
The initiative continues to welcome collaboration that helps books reach readers and supports students in continuing their education.
